In the summer, rising temperatures, metal, and concrete make life in inner cities increasingly challenging for all residents. Which materials could provide relief in overheated cities in the future?
Together with architects Maxie Schneider and Bastian Beyer, PhD, participants in this workshop explored speculative futures for overheated city centers. Drawing on shape memory alloys, thermoactive pigments, and hydrogels – i.e. materials that respond actively to temperature changes – the speculators designed possible structural elements for the cities of tomorrow.
