Futures of Air

Co-Speculation Workshops in May 2023

Air is invisible, yet it is everywhere – and is always already on its way to becoming something else. From the molecule to the atmosphere, the global climate crisis and thus the possible futures of our coexistence will be decided by means of air. Does the air belong to all of us? What kind of stories are circulating in the air? What will connect us in the future?

The workshop series invited participants to engage in diverse speculations about possible futures of air – in a direct exchange of experiential knowledge from civil society and current research questions at the Berlin Clusters of Excellence »Matters of Activity« and »Science of Intelligence«. Three co-design workshops explored and negotiated air’s critical role as a collective, active, and intelligent material. The outcomes of these workshops ultimately inspired our exhibition »AIRBOUND. Sensing Collective Futures« at CLB Berlin Aufbau Haus in October and November 2023.
