In the workshop, one group speculated about a machine that enables people to communicate underwater with living beings. Here, the group members contributed their knowledge as a designer, artist, gardener, and illustrator.
The »Neo-Amphibious Translation Machine« is worn on the body like a scuba suit. First, the suit is inflated, and then it wraps itself around the body like a second skin. The material enables the wearer to breathe comfortably, whether underwater or on land. The built-in translation machine converts the wearer’s speech into electromagnetic signals, which other creatures can understand. What might be the first words that we exchange with aquatic beings? According to the co-speculators, they could be an apology.
»Our speculation is a machine that enables us to become an amphibian. You wear the machine on your body. We can use it to stay in the ocean and communicate with oceanic creatures – for example via electromagnetic fields or sounds. It’s also important that the machine can function both underwater and on land – that’s why we call it ›Amphibious‹.«
